Industrial Structure and Competitiveness Level in Nodal Cities along the Silk Road Economic Belt: A Case Study in Lanzhou, Gansu Province
To construct "OBOR" has become as a national strategy,the nodal cities along the Silk Road Economic Belt are the important supports to realize the will of the state.In this study, the Esteban-Marquillas model, cluster analysis and empirical analysis were used to carry out a cluster analysis on the industrial structure and competitiveness level in Lanzhou during the period of 2008-2013.Result showed that the growth rates in Lanzhou were higher than the provincial averages only in 7 industries among the 19 industries in Gansu Province in recent 5 years.The differences of construction industry & information transmission and computer services & software were higher than the corresponding growth rates of Gansu Province, and they were 4.91 and 4.99 respectively.The industries including agriculture, forestry, animal husbandry & fisheu, mining, manufacturing, transportation, storage & mail business, wholesale & retail trades, financial services, neighborhood services, education, culture, sports & entertainment,public management & social organization were in recession, so it is urgent to adjust the industry structure.The industries could be divided into three or four types, and the classified results accorded with the actual development.In advancing the construction of the Silk Road Economic Beh, three kinds of work should be focused in the future, they are to adjust the industry structure, undertake industry transfer, and strengthen the tertiary industry.
