In order to reveal the distribution of soil water and salt in the non-irrigated saline wasteland and the growth zone of the windbreaks surrounding a plain reservoir, the groundwater monitoring wells and soil monitoring sites were distributed around the south area of Duolang Reservoir in a desert-oasis region. The monitoring of monthly groundwater depth and soil moisture and salt contents in a 2-year period was conducted. The results showed that the groundwater depth under saline wasteland in the study area was slightly changed during the monitoring period, and the average was 1.28 m.Soil moisture content was increased with the increase of soil depth, and soil water content at 60-100 cm depth was higher than that at other soil layers.Soil salt content in the saline wasteland varied in a range of 0.48-8.86 g · kg-1,and the total soil salt content was decreased with the increase of soil depth. The soil salt content at soil depth of 0-40 cm changed most significantly, and a salt accumulation occurred at this soil layer. The soil salt content under windbreaks was significantly lower than that under natural ecological forest.
