陶瓷是古代中国对外贸易的重要商品,研究者可以从中获取关于流通轨迹、技术传播、器用习俗以及图像审美等多重信息.这些特质使其成为学界探究古代贸易与跨文化交流的理想媒介.本文以上海博物馆"东西汇融:中欧陶瓷与 文化交流特展"(West Encounters East:a Cultural Conversation between Chinese and Duropean Ceramics)为例,探索突破传统器物研究局限,在跨文化交流视域下透过陶瓷单一材质,讲述和构建中外交流史的可能性;通过分析展览对中西交流史的宏观脉络串联、微观细节呈现,以及多视角探索,展现贸易陶瓷的研究容量.在此基础上,重新审视展览背后的学术脉络,呼吁学界对陶瓷生产、流通、消费全流程的关注,倡导从"周边""海外"看"中国",开展跨材质、跨区域的多元研究,以期拓展贸易陶瓷的研究面相,引领新的研究方向.
Abstract
Ceramics was an important commodity in ancient China's foreign trade.By examining them,researchers can obtain important information about its circulation,technological dissemination,traditional and customary usages,and aesthetic values.These characteristics make ceramics an ideal medium for exploring ancient trade and intercultural exchanges.Using the Shanghai Museum's special exhibition,"West Encounters East:A Cultural Conversation between Chinese and European Ceramics,"as an example,this article attempts to break through the limitations of traditional research on artifacts.It explores the possibility of recounting the history of Sino-foreign exchanges by examining a single material.The exhibition reveals the macroscopic connection between China and the West,as well as the quantity of export ceramics being examined.On this basis,this article calls for a reassessment of the scholarship,calling for academia to pay attention to the entire process of production,circulation,and consumption of ceramics.It also encourages the examination of"China"from the"periphery"and"overseas"to open up new possibilities for diversified research across materials and regions.
