Internal Thread Parameters Measurement of Tubing Coupling Based on Steering Laser Stereo Vision
Tubing coupling is an important connection tool for oil field drilling, and the quality of its internal thread is very important for the safe exploitation of oil and gas.In view of the problems of low efficiency, large wear, and poor accessi-bility of non-contact methods such as the existing contact detection methods for the inner thread of oil pipe couplings,a sys-tem and method for measuring internal thread parameters of tubing coupling based on steering laser stereo vision are pro-posed.With this method, the laser and mirror are used to realize the enhancement of the profile of the internal thread and the angle peeping. With the help of a calibration of the camera model parameters, the 3D point cloud of the bilateral tooth profile in the longitudinal section is reconstructed by stereo vision and rotary feed. After further processing, three geometric parameters of internal thread pitch, tooth height and taper are calculated from the 3D point cloud. Finally, according to the parameters tolerance range specified by the American Petroleum Institute(API)standard, the quality of the inner thread of the tubing coupling can be judged.A vision system is developed to measure the geometric parameters of the inner thread of tubing coupling with two specifications of 2 7/8 and 3 1/2 inches under the same working conditions as the traditional measuring tool. The results show that the proposed vision system can realize the integrated high precision and high efficiency measurement of multiple parameters of the internal thread, and meet the needs of industrial sites.
