Influence of Geometric Parameters of Chamfered Edge of Spade Drill on Drilling Temperature
To explore the influence of chamfer geometry parameters on drilling temperature, and to provide reference for parameter selection of chamfer edge of spade drill, the influence of chamfered angles and widths on drilling temperature is obtained by finite element simulation of temperature field during drilling process of spade drill. To verify the simulation results, the chip temperature during the drilling process is measured by an infrared thermal imager. The surface morphology of the chips is also observed by optical microscope, and the reasons for the variation of drilling temperature with the geomet-ric parameters of the chamfered edge are analyzed. The results show that the drilling temperature first increases and then de-creases from the increase in chamfer width. With the increase in chamfer angle, the drilling temperature of the spade drill first increases, then decreases and finally increases. When designing the chamfer edge, the chamfer width should be selected as 0.1 mm﹤b≤0.3 mm,and the chamfer angle should be selected as 10°﹤γ≤20° to make the spade drill insert have good heat dissipation capability. When chamfer width and chamfer angle increase, the friction of the chips intensifies and the drilling temperature increases. At the same time, the increase in chamfer width and chamfer angle also improves the heat dissipation capacity of the spade drill insert.
