Effect of Sandblasting Time on Surface Condition and Wear Properties of TiCN/α-Al2O3/TiN Coated Cermet Inserts
The MT-TiCN/α-Al2O3/TiN coating is deposited on the surface of the cermet substrate by chemical vapour deposition, and then the CVD-coated cermet inserts are sandblasted. The surface morphology, mechanical properties and wear resistance of the coated cermet inserts after different sandblasting treatments are analysed. The results show that the blasting time has a large influence on the surface erosion of the coated cermet inserts. The surface roughness of the unblast-ed coating is high and there are large residual tensile stresses on the surface of the coating, while the surface roughness and residual stresses of the coated cermet inserts after sandblasting are significantly reduced and the surface hardness and wear resistance are significantly increased. At a blasting time of 10s,the lowest surface roughness is achieved and the residual tensile stresses are reduced by 85% compared to unblasted coated inserts. The optimum blasting time of 10s is obtained based on the surface roughness, hardness and residual stresses of the coated surface and the flank wear morphology after treatment with different blasting times.
