Sugarcane originated from the old continent and was mainly used for making sugar since ancient time.After Columbus discovered America,sugarcane was brought to the new world.Sugarcane quickly spread to Central and South America because of its strong adapta-bility,and many sugar industries emerged and flourished in the new continent.Although plantations of sugarcane brought huge profits in short time,they also made bad effects in A-merica for a long time,such as singularity of the farm crops,economic backwardness,envi-ronment disruption,and so on.
