Oil and gas resource potential in the Russian Arctic zone and suggestions for strengthening Sino-Russian oil and gas cooperation
This paper analyzes the historical background and strategic significance of Sino-Russian oil and gas cooperation in the Arctic zone, the geological characteristics and resource potential of the major basins in the Russian Arctic zone,as well as the current situation, opportunities, and risks of Sino-Russian(Arctic)oil,gas and energy cooperation. It puts forward such four suggestions for strengthening Sino-Russian oil and gas cooperation in the Arctic zone as increasing the equity participation in the liquefied natural gas projects in Yamal Peninsula and Geda Peninsula in the western part of the Russian Arctic to enhance the level of cooperation on the"Ice Silk Road",taking both conventional and unconventional approaches in the central part of the Russian Arctic to accelerate the cooperation in oil and gas exploration and development in emerging exploration areas, promoting the two sides to carry out a joint oil and gas census and resource evaluation in the eastern part of Russia in low-exploration basins, and improving the technological cooperation in research and exchanges to expand the market of overseas engineering and technological services.
