The evaluation and grading work of public libraries has played an important guiding and promoting role in the development of China's public library industry, and is also constantly improving and developing it-self,presenting many distinct characteristics and encouraging trends. This article provides a panoramic scan and objective analysis of the first seven evaluations of public libraries in China. It is found that the evaluation and grading work of public libraries in China presents characteristics and trends such as dynamic adjustment of the standard system, continuous improvement of evaluation standards, increasingly comprehensive evaluation con-tent,increasingly prominent evaluation orientation, and gradual consideration of regional differences. However, there are still some shortcomings in terms of work organization, standard formulation, regional balance, and ap-plication of results in this work.Improvements can be made in the following areas:promoting investigation and research, establishing a correct evaluation orientation;clarifying the main responsibilities and optimizing the e-valuation organizational process;enriching the evaluation content and setting up diverse incentive methods;transforming evaluation methods to scientifically bridge regional differences;strengthening theoretical research to ensure scientific and authoritative evaluation.6 tabs.36 refs.
