In the process of using generative artificial intelligence, users often experience information anxiety, yet the mechanisms behind this phenomenon remain underexplored. This study investigates information anxiety in the context of using a prominent representative of generative AI,ChatGPT.Drawing on the grounded theory research paradigm,we conducted a coding analysis of 28 interview transcripts and 6 online sources to explore typical manifestations, influencing factors, and resulting consequences of information anxiety in ChatGPT usage.A theoretical model of the mechanisms underlying information anxiety in ChatGPT usage was developed.Find-ings reveal that typical manifestations of information anxiety include skepticism about authenticity, concerns about risk, and a sense of confusion.Influencing factors encompass personal, technological, informational, and social dimensions, leading to consequences such as increased need for verification,decision-making difficulties, and reduced usage.1 fig.5 tabs.60 refs.
