Development,Dilemma and Prospects of China-Japan-ROK Cooperation
Since the first leaders'meeting in 1999,China,Japan,and the Republic of Korea(ROK),driven by internal demand, political guidance, and external crises, have gradually formed a three-level cooperation model that comprises summit, ministerial and working-level meetings, constantly deepened cooperation in multiple areas, and continued to expand cooperation under various paths including the China-Japan-ROK Free Trade Area concept and the"RCEP+"framework. However, the development of China-Japan-ROK cooperation faces severe challenges, including mounting external interference from the United States, impaired expectation of cooperation benefits, and a lack of collective identity, among other issues.Despite these challenges,China-Japan-ROK cooperation is underpinned by a solid foundation of public support and a significant political will, which indicates potential for its further development. In order to more effectively capitalize on the warming trend of trilateral cooperation, the three countries should be committed to deepening communication and adjusting mutual perceptions;expanding common interests and enhancing interdependence;strengthening strategic collaboration and achieving synergy of mechanisms.Historical experience has proved that mutual influence and interaction among the three countries are key variables in promoting regional stability and prosperity.Peaceful coexistence among China,Japan and the ROK and the joint promotion of regional economic development and cultural integration align with the national interests and regional cooperation needs of all three parties. It is also a prerequisite for achieving win-win cooperation in Northeast Asia and building a peaceful and stable East Asia.
