To construct New Liberal Arts,college English education plays an important role.To enhance student's comprehensive academic English skills is the goal for research-oriented universities.This study investigated student's needs for academic English skills,by questionnaire with students,and interview with teachers.Both students and teachers agreed that there were high demands for enhancing student's academic English skills and their ability of conducting academic research in English,and also a high demand for broadening student's academic vision.In view of this,the author put forward a model of teaching,which was based on scaffolding,task-based teaching and formative assessment,and elaborated on its application in English for Academic Purposes(EAP)course.The paper intended to push forward research on the approaches of improving undergraduate's academic English skills and the model of teaching for EAP course under the construction of New Liberal Arts.
