Building a nation with maritime power,it is necessary to cultivate high-level reserve talents of ocean science with solid professional foundation,international vision and strong innovation ability.For this reason,we set up a cutting-edge course Foraminifera-A Tool for Reconstructing Past Ocean for senior undergraduates of ocean science majors.By means of guidance,independent study,discussion,and experiment,the course exercises students'ability to reconstruct the knowledge system of foraminifera and the geochemical characteristics of their shells,and explore their international frontier issues in the division and correlation of oceanic strata,the reconstruction of paleocurrent,paleo-seawater chemistry,paleo-productivity,and coastal zone evolution.Preliminary practice shows that this is a teaching method worth promoting for college students in the new era.
