Universities play a significant role in cultivating high-level talents and contribute to alleviate the shortage of highly skilled application-oriented professionals. However, the cultivation of strong practice-oriented professionals by electronic information engineering requires long-term effort, which is contrast to the student mindset focused on seeking immediate results. This paper explores a new"practice-first"teaching model and applies it to the undergraduate elective course of digital logic design. For teaching,we integrate real-world industry applications and research tasks in intelligent image information processing into the course content to achieve the combination of theory and practice, which promoting deep student engagement. For assessment, practical, comprehensive, and challenging projects, such as the design of UART modules for FPGA are adopted. This approach emphasizes reinforcing students'knowledge through high-pressure practical tasks and real technical requirements, shaping students'rational, patient, proactive, and focused attitudes in learning.Through teaching and practical validation, this teaching model helps students enhance their understanding of digital logic design, establish a proactive consciousness guided by practical tasks, and cultivate practical abilities to analyze and solve practical problems.
