Logical Interpretation of Site Space Toward Forts of the Great Wall of Jin Dynasty
This paper analyzes the similarities and differences of site space of medium-sized forts located in the Northeast Lu,Linhuang Lu,Northwest Lu and Southwest Lu.The results show that,forts of the Northeast Lu were either located in the valley to control traffic or in the plain hinterland to control river;in Linhuang Lu,some were located in basin against the mountains and river,others in the desert along the entrenchment;in the area of Northwest Lu,some forts were also situated in the valley to control traffic and others were in the desert leaning on the river;forts of Southwest Lu were located by the river in the basin and in the plain to defend against the enemy from both Mongolia and Western Xia.Influenced by the natural environment,ethnic distribution and centre of defence,the site space and layout space of forts are distinctive.Based on the exploration of forts'site space and reasons behind,a reference for the holistic conservation of the Jin Great Wall heritage would be provided.
