Different Levels:A Tenative Explanation of the Conflict Between the Official Architecture of Lin'an City in Southern Song Dynasty and the Record in the"Yingzao Fashi"
According to the analysis of the phenomenon that the specifications and standards of building components in the official buildings of Lin'an City in the Southern Song Dynasty are not consistent with the records in"Yingzao Fashi"and are generally smaller than those in the Northern Song Dynasty,the reasons for the contradiction include:the changes in the construction department of the Southern Song Dynasty and the downward transfer of its power;the architectural styles and specifications of the Jiangnan region and the Central Plains region are different,and the construction techniques are different because of different craftsmen;the"adapting to local customs"of the literati in the Southern Song Dynasty to the Jiangnan culture;the chronic disease of civil official politics in the Southern Song Dynasty,the corruption of grassroots officials and the decline of administrative management capabilities.Specifically,the sites with rich information such as the residence of Empress Gongsheng Renlie,the prefectural school,the prefectural government,the imperial street,the imperial temple,and the clan school in Lin'an City of the Southern Song Dynasty,which have been excavated in recent decades,are used as architectural examples,and the specifications and standards of the excavated bricks for paving,column bases,road materials,and building components of the upper floors of the houses are compared with the records in"Yingzao Fashi".
