A study of Ancient Architectural Chi Wei Based on the Boundary Paintings of the Song Dynasties
Painting was highly developed during the Song dynasty, and was renowned for its realism. This paper seeks to present a true picture of the actual appearance of the Chi Wei,the composition of the pattern and the changes in its form during the Song dynasties,to point out the subjective intentions behind them, and to analyse and understand their functional significance,by collating and analysing nine of the two thousand extant Song dynasty boundary paintings with detailed depictions of the Chi Wei. Ultimately, based on the results of the study, the intention is to understand the aesthetic tendencies of the two Song dynasties, while also providing some reference for the current conservation and restoration of the two Song dynasties.
