Thoughts on Several Scientific and Disciplinary Issues Con-cerning National Security
China highly values its national security. The Chinese government encourages scientific and technological innovation in the sphere of national security, giving full play to the role of science and technology in maintaining national security.Continuously improving our scientific and technological support capacity required to safeguard national security demands con-stantly assessing the situation of national security, based on which summarizations can be performed over several key scientific and technological issues concerning nation-al security:ideological theory, risk manage-ment and control, crisis decision-making,and capacity building, just to cite a few exam-ples.Moreover,we need to pursue innova-tion in terms of theory, technology, and management. This paper explores several scientific issues concerning national securi-ty,which include the theories and evaluation methods for managing national security risks;methods and technologies for con-structing,deducing,and assessing national security scenarios;technologies and meth-ods for prediction and early warning of national security incidents;technologies and methods for decision-making,management,and control of national security crises;and scientific issues in several other areas con-cerning national security.Furthermore, this paper discusses several disciplinary issues concerning national security, such as the targets of the discipline of national security studies, its curriculum design, research methodologies, and relationship with relevant first-level disciplines. We expect that the discipline of national security studies will steadily gain ground in China along with scientific and technological innovation, which will contribute to the building of a theoretical system for ensuring the resilience of national security, the amelioration of China's capacity for independent innovation in science and technology related to national security, the development of national securi-ty-related disciplines, and the cultivation of innovative talents on national security.
