Impacts of Non-Traditional Security Issues on National Security
Presently,a series of new changes are taking place in non-traditional security fields, characterized by the in-crease of confrontation and conflict and a pronounced trend towards diversification. The interconnectivity, unpredictability, and transmissibility of non-traditional security threats are unprecedented. The emergence and even perpetuation of the above-mentioned new features both result from objective factors, such as social devel-opment,ideological shifts, and scientific and technological advancement, and are closely related to the moves of certain major countries to recklessly instigate so-called great power competition and ramp up geopolitical contest.Hidden behind the rise of non-traditional security threats is the rapid resurgence of securiti-zation in global politics.Non-traditional security issues have generally entered a dynamic phase, which exerts a direct impact on the international security environment and the greater global land-scape.A growing number of countries are emphasizing the realistic and urgent threat of non-traditional security challenges to their national security.Increasingly, they tend to achieve traditional security goals via non-traditional means and tackle non-traditional security challenges with traditional mindsets.Consequently, the line between traditional and non-tradition-al security issues is increasingly blurred. The methodology that dichotomizes traditional and non-traditional security issues may no longer apply when it comes to assessing the major realistic threats confronting national security. From such changes and trends,we can find that the connotations of peace and war have changed significantly in the new era.It is getting difficult to distinguish"hot"securi-ty issues from"cold"ones or traditional security issues from non-traditional ones. This requires us to give full consideration to all security issues when recognizing and addressing national security challenges. We should analyze the increasingly com-plex security issues within a wider context of the once-in-a-century changes taking place in the world and steadfastly pursue a holistic approach to national security as our fundamental principle in response to various threats.
