Russia-Ukraine Conflict:An Important Variable in the Fast-Evolving Global Landscape
The Russia-Ukraine con-flict can be viewed as a continuation of the East-West confrontation since the Cold War,a prologue to the world's great chang-es unseen in a century, and, more signifi-cantly,an important variable that will bring about a radical transformation of the global landscape, which previously hap-pened gradually,at a certain historic moment.First, the Russia-Ukraine conflict will inflict a heavy blow to the dominance of the West, which, relying on the virtual economy as the main economic driver, has thereby reaped the world's wealth. It will initiate a historical process where manu-facturing countries and those rich in natural resources will be able to compete on an equal footing with their Western counterparts.Second, the Russia-Ukraine conflict has further awakened the aware-ness for strategic autonomy in most countries and regions around the world.Consequently,an increasing number of global great and middle powers have been shifting alliances in light of national interests.Third, the Russia-Ukraine con-flict will lead to the end of the traditional economic globalization dominated by the West, notably the United States.A new type of economic globalization with emerging economies as the mainstay will be unstop-pable.Fourth,the Russia-Ukraine conflict may represent a historical turning point for the end of American hegemony. The world power structure characterized by the co-existence of"one hegemon and multiple powers"will become increasingly pluralistic, diversified, and multi-polarized.Fifth,in the context of the accelerating evolution of global geopolitical, economic, military, and diplomatic relations,Eurasia may return to center stage in major-coun-try competition and cooperation, both politically and economically.Sixth, despite all the difficulties, obstacles, and short-term pains that may arise, there is no doubt that the world will revive as it moves towards the building of a community with a shared future for mankind.
