A Comparative Analysis of Chinese and American Approaches to National Security
The approach to national security is the top-level national security theory of a country,reflecting its funda-mental attitudes and views on basic nation-al security issues,while providing guidance for its actions,in particular relevant activi-ties.The approach to national security varies from country to country and chang-es from time to time.Currently,guided by a holistic approach to national security,China is following a path of national securi-ty with Chinese characteristics;whereas,the United States still clings to its long-standing hegemonic approach.Thus,the two countries are applying totally contrasting approaches to national securi-ty,as illustrated by the divergences between their views on national security interests,threats,space,strategy,and benefits.The root of their divergences lies in the diffier-ing historical and strategic cultures,geo-graphical conditions,security environ-ments,and political systems of the two countries.
