Characteristics and Historical Evolution of Japanese National Security Strategy
Japan has long focused its attention in the field of defense in terms of national security strategy.Discussions regarding strategic directions have always taken center stage in the public opinion and political agenda of the country.During the second term of former Prime Minister Shinzo Abe,Japan's national security strategy gradually shifted away from the Yoshida Doctrine,which empha-sized economic policy while minimizing Japan's military strength.The revisions passed to three key security documents on December 16,2022,highlight the latest progress in this direction,marking a major breakthrough in Japan's efforts toward a global military power.This article intends to provide a more accurate understanding and evaluation of Japan's new strategic direction and its potential implications by reviewing the characteristics of,analyzing the underlying reasons for,and assessing the trend of Japan's national security strategy after World War Ⅱ.Furthermore,it attempts to shed some light on the strategic future of Japan in the long term.
