Toughening Strategies of Epoxy Resin-based Carbon Fiber Reinforced Composites
Addressing the current issue of insufficient toughness in the state-of-art carbon fiber reinforced composite, this study introduces thromboplastic toughening agents with reactive groups into the traditional epoxy resin matrix.Toughening agents could bond with epoxy molecules chemically and form interpenetrated networks. This paper compared the influence of toughening agents with/without chemically reactive groups toward carbon fiber reinforced composites by means of nanoscopic characterization and physical, chemical and mechanical analyzation. The results show that the compression after impart of carbon fiber reinforced composites improved remarkably after addition of reactive toughening agents, from 280 MPa to 330 MPa.
