Cracking Resistance of Basalt Fiber Reinforced Asphalt Mixture
In order to improve the cracking resistance of asphalt mixture, basalt fiber is used to strengthen the asphalt mixture. The semi-circular bending tensile(SCB)tests of basalt fiber asphalt mixture with different lengths and mass contents are carried out at different temperatures. The cracking resistance of asphalt mixture is evaluated by fracture energy, and the strengthening mechanism of fiber is analyzed by scanning electron microscopy(SEM).The results show that the addition of fiber makes the load displacement curve of the sample exhibit higher peak load and greater deformation. When the fiber length is 3 mm or 6 mm,the fracture energy increases with the increase of fiber content. When the fiber length is 9 mm,the fracture energy increases first and then decreases. When the fiber length is 0.3%,the fracture energy reaches the maximum. With the same fiber content, the fracture energy increases with the increase of fiber length. The reason for the improvement of the crack resistance of basalt fiber asphalt mixture is that after the addition of fiber, the fiber in the asphalt mixture forms into a three-dimensional skeleton and delays the crack propagation,so as to improve the crack resistance of asphalt mixture. The study results can provide theoretical reference for the application of basalt fiber in project practice.
