Research on the Properties and Modification Mechanism of Polyether TPU Modified Asphalt
In order to explore the properties and modification mechanism of polyether thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer(TPU)modified asphalt, the basic properties, storage stability, viscosity temperature characteristics, rheological properties, temperature sensitivity, and pyrolysis characteristics of TPU modified asphalt are analyzed using three major asphalt index tests, segregation test,Brinell rotation viscosity test, multiple stress creep recovery test, temperature scanning test, and thermogravimetric test, and the modification mechanism is analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy test. The results indicate that TPU modified asphalt has good high-temperature deformation resistance, storage stability, and thermal stability. The recommended optimal TPU content is 5%.Compared to SBS modified asphalt,TPU modified asphalt has a construction temperature about 10℃lower,making it a low-carbon and environmentally friendly pavement material. The rutting factor and fatigue factor of TPU modified asphalt with different TPU particle sizes and contents have similar variation patterns. The addition of TPU improves the elastic composition of asphalt and enhances its high-temperature stability.Isocyanates in thermoplastic polyurethane elastomers undergo addition reactions with aromatic compounds in the base asphalt. The characteristic peaks of TPU modified asphalt are mainly the stretching vibration of aliphatic C-H functional groups,oxygen-containing functional groups, and C=C,which improve the physical and mechanical properties of the base asphalt.
