Phased Array Detection of Weld Seam in Restricted Position of Power Station Pipeline
For the pipelines of unequal thickness of thermal power units, the inner wall is thinned to equal thickness of the outer wall and then welded.A thinning step is left near the outer wall port of the pipe fitting. The scanning distance of the A-type pulse ultrasonic detec-tion probe is limited. The sound field cannot cover the whole weld area and there is a large detection blind area, which does not meet the standard requirements of single-sided bilateral scanning class B inspection of the weld.In order to solve the problem of ultrasonic inspection of welded seams in such restricted positions, ultrasonic phased array technology is used.By the use of phased array sector scanning, full focus detection and the combination of two probe acoustic field characteristics, the feasibility of phased array technology for the detection of welded seams in restricted positions is verified through simulation, comparative block testing and actual pipeline weld inspection tests.
