Study on Cooling Performance and Mechanism of Thermal Reflection Seal Material on Asphalt Pavement
Thermal reflection type asphalt pavement seal layer can reduce the temperature of asphalt pavement effectively and avoid rutting disease.Hollow ceramic beads(HCB)and hollow glass beads(HGB)are used to prepare thermal reflection seal material for asphalt pavement by combining with 2 types of preventive maintenance techniques of fog seal layer and slurry seal.Scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and X-ray diffraction(XRD)are used to characterize the microstructure and chemical structure of the 2 thermal reflective materials.The cooling effect of different seal layer forms and different thermal reflective materials is studied with indoor cooling test,the cooling effect of thermal reflective slurry seal is studied with outdoor cooling test,and the thermal reflection mechanism of HCB and HGB in seal layer is discussed.The result shows that(1)the microstructure and chemical composition of HCB and HGB are beneficial to reduce road temperature with SEM and XRD test;(2)the laboratory cooling test shows that the thermal reflection slurry seal with the content of 8%HGB can reduce by 2.6℃,the thermal reflection fog seal layer with the content of 100%HGB can reduce by 1℃,the cooling effect of thermal reflection slurry seal is better than that of thermal reflection fog seal layer,and the cooling effect of adding HGB is better than that of HCB with the same content;(3)outdoor cooling test result shows that compared with the slurry seal without thermal reflective material,the cooling effect of the slurry seal with 8%HGB can reach 5.2℃;(4)compared with the thermal reflective slurry seal,the cooling effect of the layer with 8%HGB reaches 3.3℃,and thermal reflection slurry seal can not only highway maintenance but also achieve cooling effect.The study result can provide a feasible solution for routine preventive maintenance of key highway sections.
