Influence of PET Plastic Derived Additives on Bonding Between Recycled Concrete Aggregate and Asphalt
The recycled aggregate surface is adhered with mortar, presenting disadvantages such as high crushing value and strong water absorption. That results in poor road performance of the recycled aggregate asphalt mixture.Aiming at the deficiencies(i.e.,weak bonding force)in the recycled aggregate asphalt system, the waste PET plastic derived additive was adopted as the performance enhancer for recycled aggregate asphalt concrete.Through conducting contact angle test, boiling test and pull-out test, the influence of different PET additive dosages on bonding between asphalt and recycled aggregate was studied. The influence of PET additive on water stability of recycled aggregate asphalt concrete in the immersion Marshall test and freeze-thaw split test was evaluated. The result indicates that the incorporation of PET additive can significantly enhance the bonding force between asphalt and recycled aggregate. It effectively improves the anti-stripping performance of asphalt concrete. It not only helps to mitigate the negative influence of water on bonding force at the interface between recycled aggregate and asphalt, but also protects the mortar layer on recycled aggregate surface. When the PET additive dosage is 1%,the immersion residual stability and freeze-thaw split strength ratio of recycled aggregate asphalt concrete increase by 15.9%and 16.2%respectively.No continuous decrease in the water sensitivity of recycled aggregate asphalt concrete is observed with the increase of PET additive dosage. It shows that the moderate addition of PET additive has the significant and controllable effects on improving the concrete water stability.
