The Belt and Road Initiative and Service Trade Cooperation:Based on the Perspective of Service Trade Network
The Belt and Road Initiative is a key practice in building a community with a shared future for mankind. It has played an im-portant role in the process of fostering a new type of international relations, one founded on mutual coexistence and shared prosperity. This pa-per focuses on trade in services,an international form of interaction that integrates both cultural exchange and market development. We con-struct panel data at the country level for the period 2006-2019.Based on the perspective of the service trade network and difference-in-dif-ferences method,we examine the impact of the Belt and Road on service trade cooperation among participating countries. The results of the study indicate that the Belt and Road Initiative has significantly enhanced service trade cooperation among participating countries.Mechanism analysis reveals that the institutional, cultural, communication, transport, and financial environments among these countries have notably im-proved since the initiative's introduction, thereby strengthening service trade cooperation.Heterogeneity analysis shows that the Belt and Road Initiative has a significantly positive impact on service trade cooperation in coastal countries,Maritime Silk Road countries, and low-income,low-risk countries. Moreover, when categorized by the type and foundation of trade in services, the initiative is found to be more conducive to enhancing cooperation in emerging and traditional service sectors among the participating countries. The initiative is positioned to play a role in"building bridges and roads".This paper provides theoretical support for the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative,aim-ing to offer further insights into the collaborative practice of international cooperation in global governance.
