The Evolution of Regional Entrepreneurial Comparative Advantage:Path Dependence or Path Transition
High-quality entrepreneurship is not only an effective way to improve employment rate but also a significant driving force to promote high-quality economic development.Based on the product space framework theory,we define the comparative advantage of regional entrepreneurial projects, and adopt the data of National Business Registration Enterprises(1996-2020)to calculate the path dependence index of entrepreneurial development across 337 prefecture-level cities in China for the first time.and defines the specific evolution pattern of entre-preneurial comparative advantage in each region,so as to study and judge the overall quality level of entrepreneurial development in China. Our study shows that:(1)Chinese entrepreneurship is inclined to follow a path-dependent pattern, reflecting the serious low-quality conver-gence problem in China's entrepreneurial development.Only a few developed regions can successfully break away from the path dependence, open new industries and realize the overall transition of entrepreneurial comparative advantage.(2)Improvement in financial development,edu-cation quality, and population mobility can contribute to enabling the regional entrepreneurial comparative advantage to get rid of path depen-dence and realize leapfrog development.(3)Regional coordinated and interconnected development can also help all regions break the path de-pendency lock of entrepreneurship. From the perspective of comparative advantage evolution analysis, this paper provides a new exploration perspective for the measurement of regional entrepreneurial development quality, and also provides theoretical support for the government to stimulate market vitality and promote high-quality entrepreneurial development.
