The Dilemma and Path Construction of Identity Recognition for Rural Doctors
Rural doctors are grassroots health workers who are responsible for providing medical, preventive and health care services in village-level health facilities in China, and they belong to a special social group without the status of a regular public institution employee.Based on the differences in household registration and occupation, rural doctors have developed a diverse identity as doctors, farmers, and a combination of both.Due to this diversified identity, rural doctors face challenges in identifying with their roles, mainly because the relevant laws, regulations and policies regarding the recognition of their identity are unclear, society questions their identity as doctors;rural doctors themselves doubt their own doctor identity. To address the identity crisis facing rural doctors,it is essential to establish a strong doctor identity for them. The state's institutional recognition of the identity of rural doctors is the fundamental guarantee, the society's full shaping of rural doctors is an important support, and the self-awareness of rural doctors is an intrinsic condition.
