The innovation source city is the gathering place of scientific research institutes and scientific re-search talents,which reflects the original innovation ability of a region.Based on principal component analysis,this paper makes a comparative study on the scientific and technological innovation ability of Lanzhou in the innovation source city from the perspectives of scientific and technological innovation input,original innovation power,scientif-ic and technological innovation resources,scientific and technological innovation achievements transformation,sci-entific and technological innovation support and scientific and technological innovation environment.The results show that Lanzhou ranks high in the transformation factors of scientific and technological innovation achievements and has advantages;while scientific and technological innovation support,original innovation power,scientific and technological innovation resources ranked in the middle,with greater room for improvement;and the ranking of sci-entific and technological innovation input and scientific and technological innovation environment factors is lower than that of other innovation source cities.Therefore,Lanzhou should increase the investment in science and tech-nology research and development,continue to do a good job in cultivating innovative enterprises,deepen school-en-terprise cooperation,at the same time,strengthen policy support,constantly deepen the reform of talent system and mechanism,gather talent strength,and further improve Lanzhou's scientific and technological innovation ability.
