Breeding report of a new early maturing pear cultivar——‘ Cuiyu'
Pear 'Cuiyu', a new early maturing cultivar, was derived from the Pyrus pyrifolia cross 'Xizilǜ' ×'Cuiguan'. The fruit is round and regular. Fruit skin is bright and clean with beautiful light-green color, has wax coat and no/less russet spot, dots are minimum-size. The flesh is white, crisp and juicy, sclereid content is lower, Brix value is about 11% in usual years, average fruit weight is about 300 g. The tree is open and easy to produce flower buds, which showed the character of high yield. It's flowering by the end of March (2 to 3 days later than 'Cuiguan'), matures in early July in Hangzhou area (Zhejinag province, China). The fruit development period is about 100 days (7 to 10 days earlier than 'Cuiguan'). Its self-incompatible genotype is S3S4, which can be used as mutual pollination varieties among 'Cuiguan' , 'Yuguan' , et al., except 'Chuxialǜ'.
