Research progress of germplasm diversity in Chinese cherry (Cerasus pseudocerasus)
In this review, we made primary survey of 104 Chinese cherry cultivars (Cerasus pseudocerasus) with certain breeding potentiality, and also summarized their taxonomy, distribution and the research progress in morphology, palynology, cytogenetics and molecular biology.Based on research status and our field investigation, we believed that the excellent Chinese cherry cultivars were quite scare in spite of their rich diversity.Besides, loss of cultivar resources, confusion of cultivars name, ignorance of excellent wild germplasms were very obvious.Combined with the above questions and our field investigation of excellent wild Chinese cherry as well as further protection, utilization, breeding Chinese cherry, some suggestions were given as follows: (i) Further work on cherry resources collection, evaluation and classification should be performed ; (ii) Study of genetic diversity should be further done based on more extensive and typical samples; (iii) Some programs of hybridization breeding should be thought to carry out.
