Comprehensive experiment on the fermentation of kombucha suitable for personalized cultivation
To promote reform in higher education pedagogy,a comprehensive experimental curriculum has been designed using the fermentation of traditional kombucha as its subject matter. This approach aims to cultivate undergraduate students'observational skills in daily life and foster a spirit of inquiry-based learning, thereby achieving personalized educational objectives. This integrative experiment is suitable as a component of talent cultivation for students majoring in biological sciences, biotechnology, bioengineering and food engineering. The experimental contents were interdisciplinary, involving microbe isolation, culture, titrimetric analysis, headspace solid phase micro-extraction,HPLC and GC-MS analysis, etc.Student performance is evaluated through multiple assessment methods, including ongoing performance, laboratory reports and graduation theses. This experimental design has effectively stimulated students'enthusiasm for learning and enhanced their laboratory skills and capacity for independent work.Over a three-year development period, this curriculum has established distinctive features in terms of experimental content, implementation methodology and assessment measures. It aligns with the mainstream disciplinary trends of quality education and competency development.
