Can the Construction of Digital Rural Areas Narrow the Employment Gap between Urban and Rural Areas at the County Level?——A Quasi-natural Experiment Study Based on the"Comprehensive Demonstration Project of E-commerce into Rural Areas"Policy
As a new engine of rural revitalization,digital rural construction has injected a strong impetus into agricultural and rural modernization and high-quality development of rural areas,profoundly reshaping the rural de-velopment trajectory and urban and rural employment structure.Based on the panel data of 2721 county-level ad-ministrative regions in China from 2010 to 2021,the impact of digital rural construction on the employment gap be-tween urban and rural areas in the county was empirically-studied by using the differential differential model.The results show that digital rural construction can narrow the employment gap between urban and rural areas in coun-ties.For counties with a higher initial level of urbanization,the establishment of comprehensive demonstration counties can play a positive demonstration role of"driving strong first and then strong",and the inhibitory effect on the urban-rural employment gap is more obvious.The upgrading of industrial structure and the rationalization of in-dustrial employment structure can strengthen the impact of digital countryside construction on narrowing the employ-ment gap between urban and rural areas,while this impact will be weakened when the level of opening up reaches a higher level.Based on this,this paper puts forward the following prospects:Firstly,strengthen digital infrastruc-ture to pave the road of urban and rural employment connectivity;Secondly,deepen the integration of digital indus-tries and expand the space for urban and rural employment development;Thirdly,strengthen the cultivation of dig-ital talents and promote the rational flow of urban and rural talents.
