Effects of Different Grafting Methods on Scion Survival Rate and Shoot Growth of Castanopsis sclerophylla
To explore the methods of grafting survival rate and new shoot growth of Castanopsis sclerophylla,two-year-old seedlings of common C.sclerophylla were used as rootstocks.Grafting was conducted using scions from ten clonal lines of C.sclerophylla through top-cut grafting,side-budding grafting and side-branch budding grafting methods. The survival rate of the grafted scions and shoot growth were assessed 8 months after grafting. The results indicate that the survival rate of scions across different grafting treatments was ranked as follows:amputate rootstock-cleft grafting method(86.06%)>rootstock stem budding method(74.93%)>rootstock branch budding method(72.47%).The scion survival rate for the amputate rootstock-cleft grafting method was significantly higher than that of the other two grafting methods(p<0.05).The grafting survival rates of different clones in descending order were:JO19,GZ18,JO07,JO21,GZ06,GZ11,JO15,GZ30,JO01 and GZ08,with JO19(82.23%)being the highest, followed by GZ18(79.32%),which was significantly higher than GZ08(71.40%)(p<0.05).The order of new shoot growth for different grafting treatments was as follows:rootstock branch budding method(37.64 cm)>rootstock stem budding method(36.71 cm)>amputate rootstock-cleft grafting method(32.81 cm).The method of grafting side buds onto rootstocks is significantly higher than the other two methods(p<0.05);The new shoot lengths of different scion clones in descending order were:GZ08,JO01,JO15,GZ11,JO19,JO07,GZ18,JO21,GZ06 and GZ30,among them,GZ08(38.78 cm)is significantly higher than GZ30(32.83 cm)(p<0.05).Therefore,when grafting clonal scions of C.sclerophylla to improve the survival rate, priority should be given to the top-cut wedge grafting method with rootstocks;to enhance the growth of new shoots, the side bud approach on rootstocks should be prioritized to improve seedling quality and propagation efficiency.
