Methods of Reducing Toxicity and Synergistic Effects of Wutou in Zhongjing's Treatment of Arthralgia Syndrome Based on Shanghan Zabinglun
Combined with Zhang Zhongjing's application of Wutou(Aconitum carmichaelii Debeaux)and the modern researches in Shanghan Zabinglun(Treatise on Cold Pathogenic and Miscellaneous Diseases),it is found that Zhang Zhongjing could reduce the toxicity and enhance its efficacy of Wutou through these following methods:1)decocting with honey,decocting firstly to reduce the toxicity:Wutou and honey in a ratio of 1:2～3(g:mL)were boiled together after measuring and adding honey in a disposable paper cup with a volume of 80 mL,honey and Wutou should add an appropriate amount of plain boild water,which should be first boiled,but it should not last for a long time,the decoction time of Wutou is two to three times of the total amount;2)we should pay attention to the ratio,and the compatibility with the medicine could help reduce the toxicity:When Wutou and Baishao are applied in a ratio of 2:3,Wutou presents the minimal toxicity and the best efficacy,meanwhile,the dose of Baishao could be added or reduced in a suitable manner in light of the constitution;3)clinical application of Wutou should obey Zhongjing's law,it means that the treatment should adopt a reasonable prescription and keep taking the medicine.
