Symptom Burden and Influencing Factors of Patient-reported Outcomes in Cancer Patients
Objective:To assess symptom burden of the inpatients with cancer, and explore the current state of symptom burden in cancer patients and its influencing factors.Methods:Cross-sectional descriptive survey of 343 inpatients with cancer admitted to radiotherapy center,Gansu provincial hospital, were carried out between October,2022 and May,2023 using ESAS,and the sample size was determined through convenience sampling method. Results:Among 343 patients included in the statistics consequently,60.1%(206/343)of the patients reported moderate to severe physical symptom burden,21.6%(74/343)of the patients reported moderate to severe psychological symptom burden;among the individual symptoms, the common moderate to severe symptom was fatigue(47.2%,162/343),the minimally reported symptom was dyspnea(16.0%,55/343);in multivariate regression analysis, women were more likely to have moderate to severe symptoms(P=0.048),the patients suffering respiratory tumor were more likely to have moderate to severe pain(P=0.021);moderate to severe tumor and radiotherapy were related to the scores of moderate to severe symptoms(P=0.021).Conclusion:At present, cancer patients suffer heavier symptom burden, and physiological symptoms are more obvious than psychological symptoms, while the patients'age, monthly household income and place of residence are irrelevant to the symptoms.
