External Application of Comfrey Oil in the Treatment of Adult Incontinence-associated Dermatitis:a Meta Analysis
Objective:To assess the effectiveness and safety of comfrey oil in the treatment of incontinence-associated dermatitis(IAD)using Meta analysis. Methods:Randomized controlled trial(RCT)on treating adult IAD with comfrey oil were collected by searching CNKI,SinoMed,VIP,Wanfang data,PubMed,Medline,The Cochrane Library,Embase database, and manual retrieval from Google and Baidu so as to fill in the gaps, the risk of bias assessment was carried out on the included literature by using the criteria for quality control of RCTs in the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions(version 5.1.0),Meta analysis was performed using Rev Man 5.3 software. Results:Eight studies with 608 patients were enrolled, among them, there were 304 cases in both the treatment group and the control group respectively. The results of Meta analysis showed that the significant difference could be found in the effective rate, cure rate, the average number of days to recovery when the treat-ment of IAD with comfrey oil was compared with other therapies(regular cleaning, ostomy powder,neotrime-thasone ointment, nedifene ketoconazole cream,dacronine).1)the treatment of IAD with comfrey oil has the advantage in total effective rate(RR=1.26,95%CI:1.16~1.36,P<0.000 01);2)the treatment owns the advantage in the cure rate(RR=1.40,95%CI:1.11~1.77,P=0.005<0.05);3)the therapy is good at the average number of days to recovery(WMD=-2.65,95%CI:-3.72~1.58,P<0.000 01).Conclusion:The treatment of IAD with comfrey oil could raise the effective rate and the cure rate, and reduce the duration of therapy, with certain advantages in clinical effects. However, due to the small sample size of the included studies, the low overall quality of the literature, and the low quality of evidence, clinical use of this evidence still requires caution.
