Gel propulsion is a kind of propulsion technology which gelling agent is added to liquid fuel,using three-dimensional network generated by the gelling agent to make it appear semi-solid mixture,and the thrust can be adjusted by changing the flow rate.It has advantages in the future development due to its high specific impulse,safety,reliability and easy to storage.The type of gelling agent,the characteristics of rheology,atomization and combustion,and the application prospects of gel propellantsare sorted out and summarized.The focus and development of future is prospected and put forward:preparation of gel propellant sensitive to stimulation,improvement of gel propellant delivery environment and atomization mode,establishment of gel propellant droplet com-bustion model,design and development of gel micro-propulsion system suitable for space missions.
