Soft-heavy combined continuous reduction with multi-units in bloom continuous casting for high carbon wear resistant steel
In order to solve the problem of central porosity and central segregation in continuous casting of high carbon wear resistant steel, the technical idea of soft-heavy combined reduction by continuous multi-rollers to improve the central quality was proposed based on the space and structure characteristics of 7 closed packed withdrawal straightening units with equal spacing about 1.2 m in a continuous caster of 250 mm ×280 mm bloom from a domestic plant. The models of heat transfer and solidification, cooling and shrinkage, and reduction and compensation were developed by finite difference method and then verified by the measured data in the trial. The technical parameters for the soft-heavy combined reduction in the solidification end of the bloom were designed accordingly, the set amounts for No.1-No.7 withdrawal units during soft-heavy combined reduction at the speed of 0.63 m/min are 2,3,5,5,5,3 and 0 mm,respectively, and the total amount in actual trial is 21.3 mm.The result from the industrial test indicates that the safety and stability can be ensured with a total reduction amount more than 20 mm in the plant of 250 mm × 280 mm bloom continuous casting for high carbon wear resistant steel. It is found that the central porosity index in the samples is not higher than 0.5,and the central segregation index is not higher than 1.04.
