Analysis of the Effect of Digital Economy Development on Carbon Emissions in the Yellow River Basin
Currently, the development of digital economy is on the rise, which brings new opportunities for regional carbon emission reduction. In order to explore the impact of the development of digital economy on carbon emissions in the Yellow River Basin, panel data of 69 prefecture-level administrative units in the Yellow River Basin from 2011 to 2021 are used as samples, the effect of digital economy development on carbon emission in the Yellow River Basin is explored through two-way fixed effect model, mediated effect model and regional heterogeneity analysis. The results of the study show that:(1)the development of digital economy in the Yellow River Basin has a significant impact on carbon emissions, and the effect of the former on the latter shows an inverted U-type non-linear relationship of"promoting first and inhibiting later".(2)In terms of intermediary effects, the development of the digital economy in the Yellow River Basin will indirectly affect carbon intensity through indirect effects on industrial structure, urbanization rates and regional innovation capacity.(3)In terms of regional heterogeneity, the digital economy development in the middle and downstream areas of the Yellow River Basin has a stronger impact on carbon emissions than that in the upstream area, the effects on the middle and downstream reaches of the river are similar.
