OB JECTIVE To establish an HPLC method for the determination of benzoic acid and sorbic acid in children's vitamin and mineral oral solutions.METHODS The HPLC method utilized a diode array detector and C18 column.The mobile phase was mixture of methanol and 0.01 mol·L-1 ammonium acetate solution(with the pH adjusted to 8.0 using ammonia solution,5∶95).The flow rate was 1.0mL·min-1 and the detection wavelength was 230 nm.The injection volume was 10 μL.RESULTS Benzoic acid and sorbic acid showed a good linear relationship with the peak area in the range of 0.996 0 to 79.680 3 μg·mL-1 and 1.040 9 to 83.269 4 μg·mL-1,respectively.The average recoveries were 97.86%(n=9)and 99.74%(n=9).CONCLUSION This method is accurate,reliable,and reproducible,and can be used for the determination of benzoic acid and sorbic acid in children's vitamin and mineral oral solutions.
