A Study of the Pathogenic Bacterial Resistance and Risk Factors for Bloodstream Infections in Hospitalised Patients
OBJECTIVE The objective of this study is to analyse and discuss the drug resistance of pathogenic bacteria and the risk factors associated with bloodstream infections in patients admitted to a tertiary hospital in Guangzhou.METHODS A retrospective epidemiological study was conducted on data pertaining t0 1 025 inpatients of a hospital with positively detected pathogenic bacteria in blood culture and drug sensitivity tests. The data were collected from April 2022 to March 2024.RESULTS The most prevalent pathogens associated with bloodstream infections are Escherichia coli,Klebsiella pneumoniae, and Staphylococcus aureus. The continued existence of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus,carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli, and carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae represents a significant therapeutic challenge.CONCLUSION It is recommended that hospitals implement enhanced surveillance and infection prevention and control measures for patients with methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus,carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli, and carbapenem-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae infections in intensive care units.
