Research Progress of Small Molecule Inhibitors on SARS-CoV-2 nsp16
The novel coronavirus(SARS-CoV-2)is a highly infectious and severe pathogen that poses significant challenges to global public health.Currently,COVID-19 has limited treatment options, highlighting the urgency of identifying effective drug targets. This review focuses primarilyon the progress of small molecule inhibitors targeting the non-structural protein 16(nsp 16)of SARS-CoV-2.The review provides a brief overview of the background of SARS-CoV-2,details the structure and function of nsp16,and highlights the recent advances in the development of small molecule inhibitors targeting nsp 16,including SAM analogues and coumarin derivatives, with their reported structures, activities, and associated mechanisms of action. Finally, the limitations of current research and envisions future directions for this field are envisioned.
