The Relationship between Parenting Style and Mobile Phone Dependence of College Students:The Mediating Role of Subjective Well-being and the Moderating Role of Emotional Intelligence
To explore the influence of parental rearing style on mobile phone dependence on college students, and to investigate the mediating effect of subjective well-being and the moderating effect of emotional intelligence,796 college students were investigated by the short-form Egna Minnen av Barndoms Uppfostran for Chinese Scale,Mobile Phone Addiction Tendency Scale,Emotional Intelligence Scale and General Well-being Scale. The results showed that:(1)Parental rejection and overprotection positively predicted mobile phone dependence(β=0.10,p<0.01;β=0.12,p<0.001),and negatively predicted subjective well-being(β=-0.23,p<0.001;β=-0.25,p<0.001).Subjective well-being plays a partial mediating role between them.(2)The direct effects of parental rejection and overprotection on mobile phone dependence were moderated by emotional intelligence(β=0.16,p<0.001;β=0.12,p<0.001).Parental rejection and overprotection could significantly predict the mobile phone dependence of high emotional intelligence, but could not significantly predict the mobile phone de-pendence of low emotional intelligence.(3)The first half of the path of parental rejection and overprotection affect-ing mobile phone dependence through subjective well-being is regulated by emotional intelligence(β=-0.07,p<0.05;β=-0.06,p<0.05).Compared with low emotional intelligence, negative parenting style has a greater positive predictive effect on mobile phone dependence in high emotional intelligence. This study is expected to pro-vide useful insight and practical guidance for relieving college students'dependence on mobile phones and paying attention to the influence of high emotional intelligence in negative environment.
