Archetypal Inheritance and Transmutation:A Comparison between An Account of the Governer of The Southern Branch and A Dream Under the Southern Bough
A Dream Under the Southern Bough, one of the"Four Dreams of Linchuan",originates from the legendary An Account of the Governer of The Southern Branch.By comparison,we can find that there are inherit-ance and evolution of prototypes between the two works with the same theme. From the perspective of creative psy-chology,the inheritance of the prototypes of the ant king and Nanke stems from the similar sentiments and emotions expressed by Tang Xianzu and Li Gongzuo on paper;while the evolution of the prototypes of the princess and the prime minister is related to the change of historical context. After several dynastic changes,Tang Xianzu lived in a different political and social environment compared to Li Gongzuo, which subtly influenced his creative process.Additionally, external factors such as the medium of transmission, methods of dissemination, and the target audi-ence also drive the transformation of prototypes.Authors,in consideration of the requirements of dissemination, may adjust prototypes to meet the needs of communication.
