The Impact of Visual Working Memory Load on Retrospective Order-cue Effects
The retro-cue paradigm has been widely used in visual working memory(VWM)research to en-hance memory performance, and previous studies have confirmed the facilitative effect of temporal order cues in VWM retrieval. However, the interaction between memory load and temporal order cues remains to be explored. The current study employs a change detection task in VWM combined with the retro-cue paradigm to investigate the influence of memory load changes on temporal order cue effects.Participants were presented with two consecu-tive memory arrays, and a retro-cue was used to retrieve specific memory representations. The results reveal that the temporal order cue effects varied with memory load, and they were observed under both high and low load con-ditions.This study assesses the strengthening effect of temporal order cues on visual working memory representa-tions under different load conditions, further extending the application scope of temporal order cues in visual work-ing memory.
