Based on emotional coping theory,a questionnaire method was used to investigate 305 individuals with depressive tendencies in the psychological outpatient clinic of the People's Hospital of Wuhan University to ex-plore the relationship between self-compassion and depression and the mediating role of strengths use in the Chi-nese group,as well as the amount of the dual factors of the Self-Compassion Scale on depression, respectively. The findings showed that,Both the self-compassion and the positive self-compassion factor negatively predicted depression(β=-0.40,p<0.001;β=-0.33,p<0.001)and positively predicted strengths use(β=0.60,p<0.001;β=0.85,p<0.001);the negative self-indifference factor positively predicted depression(β=0.47,p<0.001)and negatively predicted strengths use(β=-0.57,p<0.001);strengths use par-tially mediated both self-compassion and its scale bifactor-depression relationship. The results of the study sug-gest that reducing self-indifference and increasing self-compassion have a positive effect on alleviating depres-sion.In contrast, strengths use has an indirect impact on reducing depression.
